IRISH MAYFLIES
A FLY-FISHERS GUIDE
|
Patsy Deery The fly is up’ is a call that, for many fly-fishers, signals the start of a magical part of the angling calendar. Lasting only a few brief weeks, anglers are galvanised into action for those weeks of “The Mayfly”. The decline in the Mayfly population in Ireland over a number of years, which now appears to have been reversed, led to a cross over of river anglers to lough. This led to an innovative period in Mayfly pattern dressing, resulting not only in the development of standard patterns, but also to a host of new patterns. |

Some of these flies are unique and the diversity of patterns, colours, shape and size can be somewhat confusing. But on their day, or on the hour and a half of their day, they will take fish to the exception of more conventional patterns. Many expert anglers on Ireland’s loughs and rivers have been canvassed in the course of the author’s research for this book. |
|
|
Compiled and gathered together over a number of years, this book is the result of author Patsy Deery’s search for patterns that are able to account for substantial numbers of fish, and to show the huge diversity of flies that can be used during “The Mayfly”. |
|
| Irish Mayflies is a valuable addition to angling literature and an important work of reference to give inspiration to all fly-fishers, particularly those planning to fish the waters of the Emerald Isle. | |

SOME REVIEWS & COMMENTS ON THIS BOOK
“……having just read Patsy Deery’s very informative and descriptive book, both literally and photographically ……. I am already looking forward to the Mayfly season. ……..
……Patsy has brought together not only his experience and wisdom from a lifetime of angling but that of many other anglers and fly tiers. ……..
…… it is also a reference book that no self-respecting fly-fisherman or fly tier should be without.
IRISH NEWS
“Don’t judge a book by the cover, the saying goes….. but in this instance one cannot help but notice the quality of the cover when first handling the book…..
…….The description of the lifecycle of the Mayfly, including the pictures of various stages …. is breathtaking, as is all the photography in the book. In summary I can find no fault with the book or its content. It will fill a gap on the shelves of both fly dresser and angler alike ………..”
Paul Little FLYDRESSER
“…… it looks stunning – the print quality is so wonderfully faithful to the images as I saw them, the colour values – superb!............”
